About Rockies: The Rocky Mountain Horse is a rare and exciting breed, prized for it's gentle, level headed disposition and naturally occurring 4-beat gait which produces a wonderfully smooth ride. This "made in America" breed was saved from near extinction only a few decades ago, by a handful of dedicated breeders and terribly small herd of horses.
The Rocky Mountain Horse is a notoriously easy keeper. While we have more than enough stalls to go around, our horses prefer run-ins and pastures to stalls and pampering - even during February in northern Indiana! Their friendly and curious personalities make them a joy to own, their intelligence and willing attitude a pleasure to ride and teach.
Heaven's Gaite Rockies: Our horses were chosen based on (first) their disposition, followed by conformation and natural gait. Our breeding program's emphasis is to perpetuate the truly outstanding qualities of the Rocky Mountain Horse through careful and selective breeding. Our herd enjoys regular dental and farrier care, vaccinations, deworming and quality feed. We are committed to training with only Natural Horsemanship (Parelli, Anderson) techniques.
Our goal ... is to share this wonderful breed with other horse lovers looking for quality Rockies suitable for breeding, showing or sharing the trails. Our first foal is on the ground ... and he's everything we were hoping for.
About us: Our small family farm is located in far northwest central Indiana, just 1/4 mile from the Michigan State line. In early 2004, we stumbled across a farm for sale which re-kindled the dream of raising our young boys in a country setting with horses. But what breed? Having a special son with a deep love for all animals required we choose carefully for safety's sake. We started our breed search on-line and discovered a photo of a Rocky stallion (Sebastian's Mountain King) that was simply stunning. We soon met "King" (who behaved more like the family dog than an active breeding stallion) as well as beautiful Rocky mares and foals. One ride on this majestic champion was enough to convince us that this intelligent, gentle breed was exactly what we were looking for. Laboring to preserve Rockies for future generations soon became a part of our life. |
